Friday the 16th of July 2010 - the 100th episode in this radio drama takes listeners to the village of KANNAGIPURA - KANNAGIPURAM. Ever since Friday the 5th of August 2009, when listeners heard the first programmes of KANNAGIPURA - KANNAGIPURAM, the series has been broadcast, twice, every week, simultaneously on 12 channels, including 8 Sinhala and 4 Tamil language stations - the village of KANNAGIPURA - KANNAGIPURAM and its residents have now become familiar characters with the drama’s loyal audience.
KANNAGIPURA - KANNAGIPURAM is breaking new ground in Sri Lanka as the first attempt at using radio drama to reach two language speaking groups with the same message at the same time, amongst a population that is generally not bi-lingual but understands either Sinhala or Tamil. Audience feedback, as indicated through letters and sms responses, suggests that the series is popular with the target audience in almost all areas of the country, and also has a secondary audience of parents and other family members.
So keep listening - over the next few months, KANNAGIPURA - KANNAGIPURAM will continue to bring stories of its residents, their aspirations and achievements to all Sri Lankans, whatever their language, wherever they live.
- Will the new tractor that the youth have collectively bought for the village contribute towards bigger profits for the rice and grain farmers?
- Will Arun recover from the assault by the Mudalali’s gangsters?
- Will the Mudalali continue to take revenge on the villagers for the destruction of his illegal cannabis cultivation by the Police?’
- Will the newly formed women’s organization be able to help Sajeeya to expand her business?
- Will the community allow Nandani to stand for local election ?
- Will the Mudalali allow his daughter Thamara to marry Arun?
